Six new lipophilic thiacrown ethers (1-6), namely 2-octyl-9S3, 2-octyl-10S3, 2-octyl-12S4, 6-octyl-14S4, 3-octyl-16S4 and dioctyl-18S6, were synthesized from various dithiols and dihalides, using Cs2CO3 for cyclization. The extraction behavior of palladium(II) from nitric acid media was investigated via these thiacrown ethers in chloroform, focusing on extraction equilibrium constants (Kex). The study assessed the influence of various parameters, including lipophilicity imparted by alkyl chains, macrocyclic cavity size, and the number of sulfur donor atoms, on the efficiency of palladium extraction. This research emphasizes the potential application of lipophilic thiacrown ethers in recovering palladium from waste solutions, which is increasingly relevant due to the high market prices of precious metals. The results suggest that these synthesized agents can effectively improve palladium extraction processes, contributing to advancements in metal recovery technologies.
