Abstract

Language:

The objective of this study is to address the increasing complexity in meeting customer requirements for modern metallic materials, particularly in multi-element structural steels. An approach is introduced that combines data mining techniques with Monte-Carlo experiments to optimize the chemical composition of steel. The methodology involves a multipurpose optimization process, where relative concentrations of chemical elements are varied to assess their impact on steel quality. Results demonstrate that a quality criterion F greater than 1, indicative of acceptable steel quality, can be achieved when the relative concentrations of key elements surpass specific thresholds. Notably, the maximum quality and reliability were indicated by an F level of approximately 220, achieved with defined relative concentrations of manganese, aluminum, nitrogen, silicon, and sulfur. This new approach is expected to significantly enhance the reliability of modern metallic alloys by systematically addressing the complex interactions of alloying elements and manufacturing parameters.
