Abstract

Language:

Modern mill design is a combination of many factors which permit the efficient production of a mineral concentrate from operating, maintenance, and capital requirements. The objective of this paper is to highlight the essential components of effective mill design, emphasizing both process and operational considerations. The methodology involves discussing the critical features of concentrating mills, including primary crushing, comminution, and the production of final concentrates, while also comparing various plants based on operating practices and maintenance needs. The results demonstrate that a proper balance between capital and operating costs is crucial for profitability, as exemplified through the case of autogenous and semi-autogenous mills and their handling challenges. Ultimately, achieving an optimal design necessitates collaboration between experienced operators, maintenance personnel, and engineers, ensuring that all facets contribute to minimizing both capital and operational costs.
