The assimilation of the oxygen flash smelting process at the Almalyk plant is investigated, highlighting its operational characteristics and efficiency in copper production. The objective was to analyze the specific methodologies employed in transitioning to oxygen flash smelting technology, which entails introducing industrial oxygen and concentrated materials into a high-temperature furnace. A detailed examination of reaction processes inside the furnace provided insight into the production rates of matte and slag, as well as the emission profile of gases. Results indicate that the Almalyk facility, alongside other plants employing similar technology, consistently achieves a matte production grade of 55 to 60 mass% Cu, with minimal slag losses. The analysis also reveals variations in slag and matte compositions depending on the raw materials used across different locations, suggesting potential optimizations in material handling. This study contributes to the understanding of how efficiency and environmental considerations can be integrated into the operation of smelting plants, potentially informing future advancements in metallurgical processes.
