Metso Outotec has developed an advanced VSF®X solvent-extraction plant aimed at optimizing copper and cobalt extraction processes. This paper details the collaborative efforts between Sicomines and Metso Outotec in the implementation and commissioning of a modern copper solvent-extraction plant as part of Sicomines' Phase II project. The methodology encompasses fast-track project management and modular plant design, allowing for efficient construction and operation. Results indicate that the plant has achieved mechanical completion shortly after installation commenced, with Train #3 commencing production within a month of water tests and Train #4 following closely. The operation has demonstrated superior efficiency, exceeding the designed copper-transfer capacities since startup. This project exemplifies the effectiveness of the VSF®X technology in enhancing solvent-extraction processes and meeting operational goals within the copper and cobalt mining sector.
