Abstract

Language:

This article explores the determination of the equilibrium constant for an electrochemical cell by employing the Nernst equation. The objective is to provide a clear and comprehensive understanding of the relationship between cell potential and equilibrium concentrations. The methodology involves applying the Nernst equation, which relates the cell potential at non-standard conditions to the concentrations of the reactants and products in the electrochemical reaction. By analyzing various examples, the article illustrates calculations of the equilibrium constant, demonstrating how changes in concentration can influence cell potential. Results indicate that the derived equilibrium constant values are consistent with theoretical predictions, affirming the effectiveness of the Nernst equation in practical applications. This study serves as a valuable resource for students and practitioners in the fields of chemistry and electrochemistry.
