An electrolytic process is applied to the de-metalization of rinse waters emerging from nickel-plating baths. The objective of this study was to investigate the optimum conditions for nickel recovery from these solutions. A series of experiments were conducted in a rotating packed cell (RollschichtzelleR), examining the effects of various parameters including the temperature and pH of the electrolyte, current density, cell rotation speed, and diameter of the cathode granules. The results showed that up to ninety percent of the nickel could be recovered from a solution with a volume of 450 mL, a pH of 5.5 ± 0.05, and an initial nickel concentration of 2 g/L, using cathode granules with a diameter of 5 mm. Under the conditions of 50 °C electrolyte temperature and 325 A/m² current density, a current efficiency of 74% was achieved, with an energy consumption of 4.2 kWh/kg Ni. These findings highlight the effectiveness of the electrolytic process for recovering nickel from rinse waters, contributing to improved environmental management practices in the plating industry.
