This document provides an overview of ore minerals, focusing on metals, sulphides, and oxides, which comprise the valuable components of ore deposits oftentimes accompanied by gangue minerals. The objective is to classify elements according to their geochemical affinities and behavior within different mineral phases, as established by Goldschmidt’s classification: siderophile, chalcophile, lithophile, and atmophile. The methodology includes a detailed presentation of the groups of elements and their typical occurrences in sulphide, oxide, and silicate minerals, alongside pertinent geological processes involved. Results indicate the prevalence of native metals and sulphides in various ore deposits, delineating the roles of specific elements such as Fe, Cu, and Ag. Moreover, the document highlights the production of synthetic rutile from ilmenite and the formation of leucoxene, emphasizing the distinction between natural and synthetic mineral production processes. Conclusion suggests that the classification, although useful, should be viewed as an approximation of element behavior under varying chemical environments.
