Copper-zinc-lead (Cu-Zn-Pb) alloy rods are utilized in the manufacture of various components, from decorative items to critical mechanical and electrical parts. This review focuses on the defects and failures associated with brass rods, primarily C36000, C38500, and C37700 alloys, which are prevalent in multiple applications including architecture and machine components. By examining metal forming processes such as extrusion and cold drawing, this study highlights how these processes can introduce defects that impact both in-process integrity and the performance of components in service. The review further elucidates the chemical compositions and standards governing these alloys, emphasizing the role of lead particles that function as chip breakers during machining. The findings aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the failure mechanisms in brass rod production and usage, offering insights into quality control measures to mitigate defects in the future.
