Abstract

Language:

Urban heat islands (UHIs) are urban areas that experience significantly warmer temperatures than their rural surroundings, primarily due to human activities and alterations in land cover. This study aims to analyze the spatial and temporal patterns of UHIs in major metropolitan regions to understand their environmental impact and develop strategic mitigation measures. Utilizing satellite imagery and ground-level temperature data from various cities over a five-year period, we applied statistical models to assess the correlation between urban development, green space availability, and temperature anomalies. The results indicate that areas with higher vegetation cover experienced reduced temperature variations, while densely constructed zones exhibited significant heat retention. Furthermore, seasonal analyses revealed varying intensities of UHIs, with summer months displaying the most pronounced effects. Our findings underscore the critical role of urban planning in shaping temperature dynamics and highlight the importance of integrating green infrastructure to combat UHI effects. These insights contribute to ongoing efforts in climate resilience and promote sustainability within urban environments.
