The technical feasibility of treating copper silicate ore through an acid cure with concentrated sulfuric acid (H2SO4) is investigated. This study focuses on applications within conventional percolation leaching circuits for unaltered ores and conventional agitation leaching circuits for altered ores. The primary findings indicate that the acid treatment effectively inhibits silica dissolution while increasing the sedimentation rate of agitated pulps. Additionally, an enhancement in both the rate and degree of copper extraction is observed following the acid curing process. This approach is notably advantageous due to the minimal additional investment required, reinforcing the potential of acid curing as an excellent strategy for the treatment of exotic copper ores. The derived results from preliminary laboratory tests illustrate a promising avenue for addressing the operational problems and economic challenges posed by oxidized copper orebodies found in northern Chile.
