In the present study, wire arc additive manufacturing on mild steel using conventional metal ion gas deposition is performed. After deposition, microscopic analysis is conducted to identify welding defects such as hot cracking and gas porosity for process optimization. The hardness of the final product is analyzed at three different stages, revealing values between 18 to 47 kg/mm2. Additionally, mechanical testing of the specimens indicates maximum tensile strength of 25.05 MPa and yield strength of 560.69 MPa, particularly in the through deposition direction. Results illustrate that layer deposition occurred in both parallel (X) and perpendicular (Y) orientations. This study contributes to the understanding and improvement of wire arc additive manufacturing processes.
