In the conventional method for generating electricity, thermal energy is converted into mechanical energy and then into electrical energy. However, recent environmental issues, including emissions and global warming, pose significant limitations on energy resources, prompting the need for innovative technologies to generate electric power. Thermoelectric power generators represent a promising alternative green technology, as they directly convert thermal energy into electrical energy, eliminating the need for numerous moving and rotating parts. This technology effectively reduces emissions, reinforcing its environmentally friendly credentials. The application of thermoelectric power generation allows for the effective conversion of waste-heat energy into electrical power without incurring additional thermal energy costs. This paper presents a foundational understanding of thermoelectric power generation and reviews recent patents in this field, discussing their relevant applications in waste-heat energy conversion. These advancements suggest that thermoelectric power generation can significantly enhance the overall efficiencies of energy conversion systems, with lower heat source requirements compared to conventional methods.
