To seal the end of hollow fibers for medical uses, a sealing cap for Er:YAG laser light is fabricated by fusing a glass ball onto the end of a glass capillary. The developed cap demonstrates a focusing effect with its focal point located near the cap surface. This technical note evaluates the optical properties of the caps, specifically those with a diameter of 1 mm. The results indicate that the sealing cap made from low-OH silica glass achieves the lowest insertion loss of 0.27 dB and the highest transmitted pulse energy surpassing 750 mJ. These findings validate the efficiency and potential applicability of the developed sealing caps in medical laser procedures.
