An electric battery, consisting of one or more electrochemical cells, serves as a source of electrical energy for devices. Its invention is attributed to Alessandro Volta, who created the first battery following Luigi Galvani's earlier discoveries about 'animal electricity' in frogs. Volta's experiments led to significant findings regarding the electric current generated by dissimilar metals and the layering of materials. Furthermore, the emergence of a new type of battery design, the all-solid silicon battery, promises to innovate the electric vehicle market by utilizing solid silicon anodes, which offer tenfold greater energy density compared to conventional graphite anodes. However, challenges such as the degradation of silicon by liquid electrolytes and the physical expansion during charging must be addressed. Recent research suggests that these issues may be mitigated by incorporating a sulfide-based solid electrolyte, marking a significant advancement in lithium-ion battery technology. Overall, this exploration highlights the evolution of battery science and the potential impact of novel battery technology on future energy solutions.
