Copper bleed solution generated from an Indian copper smelter contains a high amount of copper and nickel along with several impurities. This study aims to develop a new process for the production of pure copper powder from such streams. To achieve this, a novel method comprising decopperisation, crystallization, solvent extraction, and electrowinning steps was employed. The purity of the electrolytic copper powder produced was found to be 99.93%. Several properties of the resulting annealed copper powder, including compact density, flowability, and particle size, were evaluated to assess their suitability for powder metallurgical applications. Results indicate that various parameters, including ion concentration, pH, bath temperature, and current density significantly impact the efficacy and properties of electrowinning copper from the actual and synthetic copper bleed streams.
