Abstract

Language:

The study investigates the synergistic effects of ferric sulfate addition and mechanical activation on the leaching of Sarcheshmeh copper sulfide concentrate. The primary objective is to enhance copper extraction while addressing environmental concerns associated with traditional pyrometallurgical processes. The methodology involves a series of controlled experiments to analyze the impacts of solution concentration, temperature, particle size, and stirring speed on the leaching kinetics. Results indicate that the presence of ferric ions significantly influences the oxidation of chalcopyrite, enhancing the leaching rate, particularly when coupled with mechanical activation techniques. The study also explores the formation of elemental sulfur during the process as an inhibitor of the leaching rate, highlighting the complexity of chalcopyrite leaching in sulfuric acid solutions. Furthermore, the findings elucidate the dual role of ferric ions in both promoting leaching and causing passivation of chalcopyrite, underscoring the need for optimized leaching strategies to maximize copper yield in industrial applications. The research concludes with recommendations for future investigations aimed at improving the efficiency of hydrometallurgical leaching processes.
