Profitable exploitation of mineralised material from the earth’s crust is a complex and difficult task that depends on a comprehensive planning process. This study aims to develop a long-term planning strategy for mining sulphide-oxide ores to maximize profit, focusing on the selection of optimal ore processing methods. The methodology includes analyzing the geometry of the deposit and the concentration and distribution of minerals, along with evaluating two different processing techniques: flotation processing and hydrometallurgical methods (bioleaching and acid leaching). A case study of the Kraku Bugaresku-Cementacija sulphide-oxide ore deposit in eastern Serbia was conducted to illustrate the effects of these methods on determining the ultimate pit. Results indicate that the application of hydrometallurgical methods leads to a significant increase in Net Present Value (NPV) by 20.42%. These findings highlight the importance of careful planning and processing choice in enhancing profitability in open-pit mining operations.
