Abstract

Language:

Tests were conducted to assess the potential of column flotation for beneficiation of a talc ore from Montana, which contained approximately 80% talc, with the gangue made up mainly of chlorite, silica, and dolomite. A reagent suite consisting of tributylamine, MIBC, and sodium silicate was found effective for talc flotation. The experiments utilized a rougher-cleaner column flotation in a continuous open-circuit, resulting in a final talc concentrate with an impurity composition of 0.90% Al2O3, 0.17% CaO, and 1.28% Fe2O3, representing impurity rejections of 77%, 85%, and 65%, respectively. The weight recovery for this configuration was 52%; however, estimates showed it could reach 75% with cleaner tailings recycling. The findings of this study demonstrate that column flotation is a viable technique for the effective beneficiation of talc ore.
