This paper discusses the development and implementation of engineering project laboratory modules aimed at enhancing the learning experience in an introductory materials course. The primary objective was to create engaging, hands-on projects that facilitate the understanding of fundamental materials science concepts. The methodology involved designing various lab modules that encourage problem-solving, teamwork, and practical application of materials theory. Results from student feedback and performance indicated a significant increase in student engagement and understanding of the material. Furthermore, these modules fostered a collaborative learning environment, allowing students to connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications in materials engineering. The findings suggest that incorporating project-based learning approaches in materials courses can effectively enhance student learning outcomes and foster a deeper appreciation for the subject matter.
