The Bayer process is a widely used method for the production of alumina from bauxite. This process focuses on optimizing the extraction and purification of aluminum compounds, including the removal of sodium oxalate and caustic components from aluminum hydroxide precipitate. The objective of this study is to detail the steps involved in the alkaline leaching process, particularly emphasizing the methodology which employs a two-step washing process using sodium oxalate and hot water. Results indicate that while there is minimal loss of sodium aluminate, the recycling of sodium oxalate is not implemented. Furthermore, the introduction of a hydrogarnet catalyst enhances the digestion process, accelerating the conversion of geothite to hematite and improving the dissolution rate of diaspore. Additionally, the extraction of aluminum from alunite is explored, where roasted ore undergoes leaching to produce a potassium sulfate solution. The collected findings demonstrate significant advancements in the efficiency and effectiveness of aluminum extraction techniques in the Bayer process, contributing valuable insights for industrial applications.
