Oxide eutectic composites prepared by directional solidification exhibit excellent mechanical properties and thermal stability in oxidizing environments. This study aims to investigate the influence of stabilizers, specifically Yttrium (Y) and Scandium (Sc), on the phase composition, microstructure, and electrical properties of Al2O3-ZrO2 eutectic composites. A hypereutectic composition of the melt was employed to prepare composites with tetragonal ZrO2, demonstrating conductivities comparable to those of composites containing cubic ZrO2. The findings reveal that the addition of Sc2O3 markedly enhances the ionic conductivity of the Al2O3-(Y2O3)ZrO2 eutectic composite at elevated temperatures. Importantly, both the microstructure and ionic conductivity remain consistent throughout the composite, indicating stable properties during growth at a constant rate. The results underscore the potential for optimizing the ionic conductivity and mechanical properties of eutectic composites through strategic compositional adjustments.
