Determining the optimum heap height is a critical aspect of heap leaching in mining, as it significantly impacts both economic efficiency and operational stability. This research investigates the effect of sulphuric acid irrigation rates and heap bed slope variations on the stability and copper recovery at the Miduk copper mine. A series of experiments were conducted to evaluate the relationship between irrigation rates and the strength parameters of Miduk oxide copper ores. The study finds that an optimal copper recovery of approximately 75% occurs at an irrigation rate of 8 l/h m². However, it reveals that increasing the irrigation rate and permeability can enhance copper extraction while simultaneously reducing the stable height of heap lifts. Furthermore, the inclination of the heap bed slope adversely affects lift height similarly. Ultimately, the study proposes a calculated total height of 38.7 m for the heap, which involves 9 lifts, taking into consideration various environmental and economic factors. This dual focus on processing efficiency and structural stability provides critical insights for the design and operation of heap leaching systems in the mining sector.
