Surface coating is an economic method for the production of materials, tools, and machine parts that require the desired surface properties such as corrosion, erosion, and wear resistance. Individuals and industry tend to focus on the wearing surface that has the greatest impact on their own economic situation. Research has been ongoing for years to reduce corrosion, erosion, and wear, either by using new corrosion, erosion, and wear resistant materials or by improving these properties in existing materials through surface coating methods. This paper reviews the work of various researchers who have conducted experimental studies on different surface coatings employed on the substrate surfaces of materials using various methods. The study discusses the various coating methods utilized, highlighting their advantages and potential applications. The findings underscored the significance of surface coatings in enhancing the durability and performance of materials subjected to harsh environments and mechanical wear, thus providing valuable insights for future research in improving material properties through advanced surface engineering techniques.
