In this study, zinc was electrochemically deposited from a non-cyanide alkaline bath solution containing a condensation product formed between anthranilic acid and furfural. The objective was to optimize the bath constituents and variables through standard Hull cell experiments to improve the properties of electrodeposited zinc. Various parameters including current efficiency, throwing power, cathodic polarization, and corrosion behavior in a 3.5% NaCl solution were investigated under optimum concentrations of additives. Tafel polarization curves were constructed for the electrodeposited layers, and weight loss and open circuit potentials were measured to assess the corrosion resistance of the zinc-coated samples, both with and without additives. The deposits' structures were characterized using scanning electron microscopy. The findings illustrated that non-cyanide alkaline baths could effectively produce zinc coatings with enhanced protective and aesthetic qualities, positioning them as a viable alternative in electroplating applications, particularly in industrial sectors where corrosion resistance is crucial.
