Abstract

Language:

This paper discusses the effective methodologies for processing low tonnage, high-grade precious metal ore bodies using a small scale vat leaching approach, as an alternative to traditional methods such as CIP (Carbon in Pulp) and CIL (Carbon in Leach). The objective is to highlight the potential of small mining partnerships, like Ban Ban Mining in Queensland, in economically extracting value from ore bodies that are too small for major exploration companies to justify in-house development. Methodologically, the paper examines a specific mining site near Ban Ban Springs, detailing its ore characteristics, including head grades of 5 gm/tonne gold and 32 gm/tonne silver, and describes the geological context, including the strata and fault systems contributing to mineralization. Results indicate that the vat leaching process presents a viable low-cost solution for the treatment of small-scale ore bodies, effectively retrieving precious metals where conventional methods fall short. The findings advocate for the utilization of such techniques in developing small scale mining operations, thereby promoting local industry growth and sustainable extraction practices.
