Abstract

Language:

This paper describes how fundamental investigations into atmospheric corrosivity have been used to classify corrosion zones used for selection of protective coating systems. Corrosivity investigations have been carried out in many parts of Australia, with detailed investigations conducted in three regions of south-east Australia. The corrosivity figures obtained in those investigations were divided into categories according to those given in ISO 9223. Known corrosion and coating performance was compared to the ISO categories. It was found that the ISO categories were acceptable for determining coating performance, although some slight changes were required.
