The technological performance and environmental advantages of replacing sand by ornamental stone processing waste (OSPW) in the production of mortars for civil construction were studied. Technological properties associated with the standard consistency index, squeeze flow and bulk densities as well as the determination of water retention and calorimetry analysis were evaluated in the mortars’ fresh state, whereas capillarity tests as well as mechanical resistance by flexural and compression tests were conducted to assess their performance in hardened state. The findings indicate that the incorporation of OSPW significantly enhances certain properties of mortars, suggesting that it can serve as a viable alternative to conventional materials. This study contributes to the advancement of sustainable practices in the construction industry by demonstrating the potential of utilizing industrial waste, promoting both technological innovation and environmental responsibility. Future applications may consider a broader range of OSPW materials to further enhance the sustainability of mortars and their performance in various civil engineering applications.
