Abstract

Language:

The Resilience 2017 conference held in Stockholm focuses on the theme of resilience as it pertains to ecological and social systems. The objective of this conference was to explore contemporary interpretations of resilience through artistic expressions that reflect transdisciplinary research from the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics. Methodologically, the event included various art sessions showcasing mixed media collections, installations, and photographic explorations, highlighting diverse perspectives on food security, migration challenges, and community resilience. Major themes discussed include the complex foodways of Ethiopia and the experiences of migrants in informal settlements, specifically addressing how these communities create adaptive strategies amidst adversity. The results underscored the vital connections between societal narratives, artistic representation, and ecological sustainability, while also emphasizing the role of community creativity in confronting modern challenges. Overall, the conference provided a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and innovative approaches to understanding resilience in a rapidly changing world.
