Several capital cost estimation procedures are reviewed briefly, with a focus on the factored estimate method. A table of cost versus equipment parameter data is provided, facilitating updates from the current value of the M&S cost index for mining and milling. The chapter presents useful cost equations to prepare computer programs for capital cost calculations. The method is exemplified, demonstrating its practical application in estimating the capital costs of processing plants. Additionally, the accuracy and utility of cost indices are discussed, emphasizing their role in estimating current prices from historical cost data. The equations were developed from prices adjusted to a singular cost index value, specifically the Marshall & Swift index at a level of 300. The effectiveness of this methodology is underscored by the structured approach to linking equipment parameters with corresponding cost equations, reinforcing its significance in the field of mineral processing engineering.
