Abstract

Language:

A novel species of Pseudomonas, designated Pseudomonas bauzanensis sp. nov., was isolated from soil in an industrial site contaminated by heavy oil and metals in Bozen, South Tyrol, Italy. This Gram-negative, aerobic, motile rod, strain BZ93T, exhibited optimal growth at temperatures between 5 and 30°C. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain BZ93T is closely related to Pseudomonas xiamenensis C10-2T and Pseudomonas pertucinogena IFO 14163T with sequence similarities of 97.8% and 97.4%, respectively. The predominant fatty acids identified were C18:1v7c (54.8%), summed feature 3 (C16:1v7c and/or iso-C15:0 2-OH; 10.3%), C16:0 (9.9%), and C17:0 cyclo (7.4%). Additionally, ubiquinone 9 was found to be the major quinone, and the principal phospholipids included phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, and an unidentified phospholipid. The genomic DNA G+C content was determined to be 61.8 mol%. Based on phenotypic traits, phylogenetic data, and DNA-DNA relatedness, Pseudomonas bauzanensis is proposed as a novel species with type strain BZ93T (DSM 22558T, CGMCC 1.9095T, LMG 26048T).
