This study presents a method for calculating the erosion potential of the Duruji river basin located in the north-eastern part of Georgia, utilizing the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) and modern geographic information system (GIS) technology (ArcGIS 10.2.2). The objective was to determine the slope length and steepness factor (LS) that contribute to soil erosion hazard assessments. The methodology involved identifying erosion-hazardous areas within the basin by analyzing the landscape attributes related to erosion. The results revealed that approximately 75.1% of the total area of the Duruji river basin was identified as erosion-hazardous. The findings underscore the necessity for detailed studies of these erosional areas, taking into consideration the various influencing factors on soil erosion. Such research is crucial for the effective design of erosion control measures aimed at mitigating soil loss and ensuring sustainable land management practices in the region.
