This study investigates the decay of honeycomb-generated turbulence in a duct subjected to a static transverse magnetic field through direct numerical simulations. In light of previous experimental work by Sukoriansky et al. (1986), this research seeks to elucidate the paradoxical occurrence of high-amplitude velocity fluctuations downstream of the flow under strong magnetic field conditions, particularly noting the absence of such fluctuations in other configurations. The analysis reveals that these fluctuations arise from the formation of large-scale quasi-two-dimensional structures during the initial decay stages, which manage to persist even amidst the magnetic suppression. Key statistical turbulence properties—including energy decay curves, two-point correlations, and characteristic length scales—are computed, showcasing the complexity of turbulence decay in magnetic field environments and highlighting its strong dependency on the flow state at the moment of magnetic field introduction.
