This study investigates the effects of different feed and winter management strategies on dairy production, profitability, and nitrate leaching from a dairy farm located in Rotorua, New Zealand. The primary objective is to model various dietary options and their respective impacts on both the economic outcomes and environmental sustainability of dairy farming practices. The methodology employed incorporates simulations based on local agricultural data combined with established agricultural models to evaluate the interactions between dietary choices and management techniques. Preliminary results indicate that specific dietary interventions and tailored winter management practices can significantly enhance milk production and financial returns while simultaneously reducing the risk of nitrate leaching into the surrounding environment. The findings underscore the importance of strategic management in dairy farming, revealing potential pathways to achieve both productive and environmentally responsible farming systems. Overarching themes suggest that integrating improved diet formulations with seasonal management changes can serve to optimize dairy performance and environmental outcomes in New Zealand's unique agricultural landscape.
