The construction of the 'Počitelj' tunnel, part of a highway project, faced challenges due to unforeseen speleological objects that emerged during excavation in weathered carbonate rocks. This study aims to address the issues related to the appearance of these speleological phenomena, which complicate construction processes and incur additional costs. A combined approach involving extensive investigative works was utilized to improve the accuracy of geological profiles prior to tunneling. Despite pre-excavation efforts, the unpredictability of speleological object occurrences necessitates a robust rehabilitation methodology upon their detection. The research involves collaboration among experts in multiple disciplines, including speleology, geology, geodesy, geotechnics, mining, and construction to devise effective solutions. Results indicate that the defined framework for professional collaboration and a structured rehabilitation process is crucial in managing the complexities introduced by unexpected speleological findings during tunnel construction. By establishing clear objectives and professional bases for intervention, this approach aims to mitigate delays and provide a coherent methodology for addressing such challenges in geotechnical design projects.
