Abstract

Language:

This publication provides an extensive review of sustainability indicators specifically tailored for the minerals extraction industries. The objective is to synthesize various perspectives on sustainable development and identify key indicators that can effectively evaluate sustainability within this sector. Through a workshop, contributions from multiple participants are integrated, addressing sustainability from regional viewpoints, including North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Africa. Methodology involves assessing different approaches, including case studies and initiatives that demonstrate sustainable practices in mining. The results reveal a diverse array of indicators: from the Canadian Mining Industry Sustainability Initiative to Turkey's unique perspective on sustainability in mineral extraction. Moreover, the publication highlights successful strategies and challenges faced by the industry in different geographical contexts, emphasizing the importance of integrating technological changes and stakeholder engagement to achieve sustainability goals. Overall, this comprehensive review serves as a valuable resource for researchers, industry practitioners, and policymakers striving to enhance the sustainability of the minerals extraction sector.
