Abstract

Language:

The Witwatersrand reefs contain gold, uranium, and pyrite in varying average concentrations, presenting unique challenges for mineral recovery. This study aims to explore the flotation processes of these three species, focusing on the simultaneous recovery of gold, uranium, and pyrite. A comprehensive review of existing literature and methodologies was conducted, emphasizing the production of sulphide concentrates and the efficiency of gold concentrates. The research concludes that effective recovery of all three minerals can be achieved by producing a rougher concentrate of approximately 20 percent of the feed mass. Additionally, it suggests that implementing reverse leaching prior to cyanidation, followed by a cleaning flotation process, could yield improved recovery rates compared to current methodologies. This innovative approach presents a potential advancement in mineral processing, contributing significantly to the efficient extraction of precious and strategic minerals from the complex ores of the Witwatersrand region.
