This study deals with the determination of heavy metals, anions and cations in atmospheric aerosols at four heavily polluted sites in Samsun city, Turkey. The aim of the research is to analyze the chemical concentration of selected pollutants in aerosol particles in a region that has not been previously investigated in detail. The methodology employed involves the use of ion chromatography with a potentiometric detector and ion selective electrodes for the measurement of anions (Cl-, Br-, NO3-, and NO2-) and cations (Na+, K+, and NH4+). Additionally, flame and graphite-furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometer techniques were utilized for the determination of lead (Pb), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and iron (Fe) concentrations. The results reveal significant concentrations of these pollutants in the air particulates, indicating the acute air pollution problem in Samsun, an industrial city known for its heavy traffic and manufacturing activities. This research provides crucial information regarding pollution sources and the potential health impacts of ambient aerosols in the area.
