Abstract

Language:

This study investigates the selection of water soluble collectors for the separation of matte, specifically targeting the recovery of copper and nickel sulphides from a Bessemer matte produced by INCa Ltd. The objective was to evaluate various collectors such as ethyl xanthate, diethyl dithiophosphate, diisobutyl dithiophosphinate (AERO 3418ATM), and mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) in terms of their efficacy in a flotation process. A methodical approach was taken whereby the parameters in a first order rate equation were measured under controlled conditions to assess the recovery rates of the targeted metals. Initial tests indicated that conventional choices like diphenylguanidine (DPG) produced limited solubility and required optimization in the frothing process. Results from this investigation revealed deficiencies in the first two reagents but showed promise with the latter water soluble collectors. These findings contribute valuable insights into the optimization of matte separation processes, which are crucial for improving the recovery of precious metals within the industry.
