Abstract

Language:

This paper presents a study on the corrective measures to optimize power factors and reduce energy costs at PT. Intan Ustrix, a company engaged in the production of paper and cardboard. The objective of this research is to address the increasing operational costs driven by the induction motor's load in the manufacturing process. Through the installation of a capacitor bank, the study aims to improve the power factor, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the motors deployed in the production units. This methodology involves evaluating capacitor banks installed on specific buses (H200, AFG, 6PA, FM, and 6PS) to analyze their impact on reducing the actual power cost and enhancing performance. Results indicate a significant improvement in the power factor from 0.716 to 0.872 at a full load of 325 KW, which in turn decreased the apparent power from 396 KVA to 329 KVA. The findings emphasize the importance of effective capacitor bank installations in reducing reactive power tariffs and overall energy costs for manufacturing operations.
