Augmented Reality (AR) superimposes virtual imagery object onto the real world and gives user an enriched environment. AR is used to enhance our perception and help us see, hear, and feel our environments in a new way. AR has been a field of research for many years. With the rise of personal mobile devices which is capable of producing AR environments, the vast potential of AR has begun to be explored. This paper surveys the current state-of-the-art in AR. It includes brief definition of AR, its history of development, the enabling technologies, applications and their characteristics.
