Water with high concentration of nitrate may cause damage to health and to the environment. This study investigated how concentration, current density, flow, pH, the use of Pd/In catalyst and operating mode (constant current density and constant cell potential) have an influence in the electrochemical reduction of nitrate and in the formation of gaseous compounds using copper electrode. Experiments were performed in two-compartment electrolytic cells, providing insights into the operational parameters affecting nitrate reduction efficiency. The results showed that optimizing the conditions significantly improved the electrochemical reduction of nitrate. Key findings include the optimal levels of current density and pH for maximum nitrate removal and the influence of Pd/In catalysts in enhancing the reduction process. This research contributes to the development of effective strategies for managing nitrate contamination in water systems.
