Brasses are essential copper-based alloys with various applications, traditionally containing lead for enhanced machining performance. However, lead poses significant health risks, prompting interest in alternative lead-free brass production methods. This study investigates the potential of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as reinforcements in brass composites, focusing on their ability to improve machinability while eliminating toxic elements. High pressure die casting was employed to produce Cu-Zn/CNT composites, achieving over 50% efficiency in the direct injection of CNTs. The results demonstrated effective dispersion of CNTs within the brass matrix, leading to a marked reduction in the friction coefficient as CNT content increased. This suggests substantial improvements in machinability, supporting the viability of CNT-enhanced lead-free brass alloys for future applications. The findings provide insights into sustainable alternatives for brass production, addressing health concerns associated with traditional lead usage.
