This study describes a leaching process for recovering niobium oxide from pyrochlore concentrate using hydrofluoric acid. Key variables such as acid concentration, temperature, reaction time, solid/acid ratio, agitation speed, and particle size were correlated with the recovery of niobium oxide. The results indicated a relatively low activation energy of 1.86 Kcal/mole and demonstrated the dependence of reaction rate on agitation, suggesting that the process is diffusion controlled. Optimal conditions for extracting niobium oxide from the leach solution, utilizing either methyl isobutyl ketone or tributyl phosphate, have been determined. Findings from this research contribute to the understanding of niobium extraction processes and the potential for pyrochlore minerals as an alternative source for niobium production.
