The Osborne copper gold mine, owned by Placer Pacific Limited, is located 195 kilometers southeast of Mount Isa and comprises three main ore zones: oxide, transitional, and sulphide copper. This study aimed to summarize the concentrator's operational procedures from its commissioning in June 1995 to the present treatment of sulphide ore. Initially, copper oxide and transitional ore were processed using the Controlled Potential Sulphidisation (CPS) method for four months, which resulted in improved flotation performance for transitional ore. Post-October 1995, the concentrator shifted to processing sulphide ore, characterized by minimal impurities and rapid flotation kinetics. This research examines key aspects including mineralogy, processing techniques, gold recovery, and operational strategies at the concentrator. Results indicate that personnel and operational efficiencies have exceeded feasibility study estimates, achieving a 50 percent increase in mill throughput and maintaining low staff turnover rates. The findings suggest that future economic strategies will focus not only on copper but also on optimizing gold recovery and exploring additional opportunities, such as cobalt recovery from pyrite and the generation of magnetite concentrate.
