This study investigates the mobility of heavy metals in two distinct soil types through the utilization of column leaching experiments combined with a chemometric evaluation of elution curves. The primary objective is to assess how varying soil characteristics influence the leaching behavior of heavy metals, which is critical for understanding contaminant transport in the environment. The methodology involves conducting controlled column leaching tests, where soil samples are subjected to percolation by solutions designed to simulate natural rainfall, allowing for the collection and analysis of eluted metal concentrations over time. The resulting elution curves are analyzed using chemometric methods to derive significant insights into the mobility of the metals. Findings indicate substantial differences in the leaching patterns among the soil types tested, with particular metals displaying varying degrees of mobility influenced by soil composition and structure. The results highlight the importance of selecting appropriate soil management practices to mitigate heavy metal contamination, emphasizing the relevance of chemometric tools in environmental assessments. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of heavy metal dynamics in terrestrial ecosystems and supports the development of strategies for soil remediation.
