Abstract

Language:

In recent years, the integration of environmentally friendly technologies such as photovoltaics and fuel cells has led to an increasing need for efficient power distribution systems. This study aims to compare equivalent AC and DC distribution systems in terms of efficiency, addressing the challenges posed by the growing number of DC loads in buildings alongside traditional AC infrastructures. By examining the advantages and disadvantages of DC transmission over conventional AC systems, this research highlights key factors such as reduced insulation requirements, lower voltage drop, and enhanced efficiency in DC systems. It also acknowledges the significant technical barriers, including the inability to transform DC voltage levels and the challenges in safety and protection technology specific to DC systems. The study reveals that DC distribution systems, particularly at a voltage level of 380 Vdc, offer substantial benefits, including improved reliability and reduced capital costs associated with system components. However, the results suggest that further development of industry standards is necessary to address the ongoing challenges in implementing DC systems effectively, aiming to optimize power distribution for telecommunications, data centers, and microgrids.
