The increasing cost of electrical power generation due to fuel inflation necessitates the optimization of electrical power design and usage. This study aimed to investigate reactive power compensation and power factor correction (PFC) methods to enhance the performance of the electrical power system network in Kuwait. A comprehensive analysis was conducted on the existing electrical power system, evaluating both active (P) and reactive power (Q) flows. The methodology involved implementing power factor correction techniques and assessing their impact on the performance of the system. Results demonstrated a significant improvement, elevating the power factor from 0.801 to 0.950 and reducing reactive power demand from 50 kVar to 22 kVar after correction, indicating more efficient utilization of transmission capacity. The findings highlight that effective implementation of PFC can lead to reduced generation losses, minimized voltage imbalance, and overall enhanced performance of the electrical system. Consequently, it is essential for all subscribers to adopt power factor correction methods to optimize network efficiency and reliability.
