This course, “Calcul des Structures I,” is intended for third-year civil engineering students and focuses on the analysis of structures, as a continuation of the course in Elasticity and Strength of Materials. It aims to provide classical calculation techniques for hyperstatic structures, particularly beams and multi-bay, multi-story frames used in buildings. The course emphasizes determining critical loads and calculating several types of hyperstatic structures rather than designing stability itself, making it essential for the conception, analysis, sizing of new works, and verification of existing structures. Prerequisites include a solid knowledge of strength of materials, and success requires active participation, mastery of prior courses, and personal rigor. The planned content covers displacement calculation, buckling associated with simple bending, plastic analysis and ultimate load, the force method, the rotation method, and the Hardy Cross method, with a balanced theoretical and practical organization (60 hours each). Students are evaluated through tests, practical work, tutorials, and a final exam, supported by a specialized bibliography in structural analysis and strength of materials.
