Abstract

Language:

Sulphide mineral dissolution in aqueous media occurs through various mechanisms, with the overall reaction rate determined by the slowest reaction step. This study aimed to evaluate the factors affecting the dissolution of sulphide minerals, emphasizing the significance of the anodic dissolution process. An innovative electrochemical measurement method utilizing a graphite paste electrode (GPE) was developed to investigate the leaching behavior of powdered sulphide mineral samples. This method closely simulates real leaching conditions, ensuring reliable and reproducible measurements. The results demonstrate that the GPE effectively reveals differences in reaction rates between solid and graphite paste electrodes, highlighting the advantages of using carbonaceous materials in electrode design. Notably, the study establishes a framework for future research in electrochemical processes related to sulphide minerals, which are pivotal in biohydrometallurgy and sustainable mineral processing. The findings underscore the importance of optimizing electrode materials to enhance leaching efficiency in metallurgical operations.
